Charles Emerson Bullock was born near
Federalsburg, Maryland, 8 August 1853, the eldest child of John
Wesley and Elizabeth Amanda (Leverton) Bullock. He
came with his parents to Milton, Indiana at the age of ten years. At the time of his marriage to Viola Jane
Shafer, 31 October 1882, he was residing with his parents on the
Claypool Farm east of Muncie. The young couple lived for two
years near Bentonville, Indiana. While living here their oldest
son John Wesley was born 20 May 1885. Later, they
rented the Grahm Farm east of Muncie. Here their only daughter
Marian was born January 12 1890. In 1894 they purchased
twenty acres of land nearby and erected a house and barn on this
land.....renting additional acreage for grain. Here they also
delivered milk from their herd of dairy cattle to the Meeker Dairy.
In 1898 Charles moved with his family to another Claypool
Farm (now known as the Dr. Will C. Moore Farm) of 735 acres near Yorktown,
Indiana. This move to so large a farm required much courage and
additional capital. He had the courage, but the capital had to be
borrowed. He rented this farm " on the shares." With 400
acres under culivation and 335 acres in grazing land, he became an
eminent and highly successful breeder; a feeder of Black Angus Cattle,
and a shipper to Buffalo, New York. On 11 November 1899 their
youngest son Warren Helm was born.
