Mother's Club Sorority and New Century, which is Akron's oldest literary club; past vice president Phi Mu Mother's Club Sorority. Served five years as volunteer Worker for Stan Hywet Hall. Substitute rural mail carrier out of Yorktown, Ind. Traveled by horse and Mailwagon with charcoal burner to keep warm. The mud on the dirt roads would ball up on the horses hoofs and make going difficult. Was overturned by the 1913 floods ---- but saved the mail. |

Fullback on "Little Giants" team for three years. Employed by Akron Engraving Co. thirty-seven years where he became an executive of the company serving as Vice President. Retired in 1956. |

Mrs. Marian B. Markle, 77, active clubwoman and Stan Hywet
volunteer, died Thursday in Akron City Hospital after a short illness. Mrs. Markle. who lived at 319 S. Firestone blvd., was one of the first Stan Hywet Hall Foundation Volunteers. A member of the women's auxiliary board, she was cited for more than 1,500 hours of service to Stan Hywet. Born in Muncie, Ind., she was one of the first women to become a rural mail carrier there, delivering mail with her own horse and buggy. SHE CAME, To Akron in 1919. |
She was a 30-year member and past president of the Century Club of Akron, a
member of the Phi Mi and Zeta Tau Alpha mothers clubs, and a former deaconess
and secretary if the Women's Fellowship of First Congregational United Church
of Christ. She leaves her husband Ralph; daughter Marjorie Austin; brother Warren Bullock, New Castle, Ind., and five grandchildren. A daughter Marian died is September. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Congregational Church, with burial in Glendale cemetery. Friends may call at the Billow Akron chapel from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. |
