MIDDLETOWN - Bert Fredrick Gilkison,
87, of Middletown died Saturday at Millers Merry Manor here
after a long illness. A resident of the Portland, Ridgeville and Bryant communities for more than 50 years, Mr. Gilkison moved to Middletown in 1994. He retired after farming most of his life and had also worked for Chrysler Corp. and Chevrolet. Mr. Gilkison was a longtime member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Portland. He was born May 2, 1907, near Moorehead, Ky. Survivors include three sons, Carl and Larry, both of Middletown and Richard of Anderson; a daughter, |
Ruby (Mrs.
David)'Closser of Alexandria; 17 grandchildren; 19
great-grandchildren, a sister, Maude Ferguson of Muncie;
and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois Jane Shockney, on Aug. 17, 1983. Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Middletown with Dr. Philip C. Rogers officiating. Burial will be at Miller Cemetery near Middletown. Friends may call 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today.
