LEBO - Nellie Calvert Bowlin, 95,
of lebo died Jan. 28, 1999, at the Emporia
Rehabilitation Center in Emporia. Nellie Rogers, the daughter of Jesse and Nannie Razor Rogers, was born Oct. 17, 1902, in Bath County, Kentucky. She moved to the Lebo area as a child,attended the rural Dale School and later attended Burlington High School. She married Bill Calvert in Totonto and lived in the Key West community, east of Lebo. They also lived at Tucson, Ariz., during the winters. He died July 13, 1969. She then moved to Lebo. She married Lawrence Bowlin. He died earlier. Mrs. Bowlin was a member of the Lebo United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She taught Sunday school in the Key West community for many years. She was secretary of the Key West Grange, the only woman member of the Key West District 28 school board, |
past treasurer of the Lebo
Senior Citizens organization, and a member of the CC
Club and NBX Bridge Club of Lebo. She also was the Blue
Ribbon 4-H Club leader. She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Bailey and Margie George, both of Lebo; a son, Carl Calvert of Winfield; a brother, Cecilo Rogers of Lawrence; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. A sister, five brothers, two granddaughters and a grandson, died earlier. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Lebo United Methodist Church. The Rev. David Chinn will conduct the service. Burial will be in the Key West Cemetery. The family will meet friends at the church from 1 p.m. until service time. Memorial contributions to the church or the Lebo Senior Citizens Center may be sent to the Jones Crable Funeral Home at Lebo. |
