H0W WE MET / THE SOLDIER WHO CAME TO DINNER     Dated 1-25-98

    I met my husband in 1945 at an Army camp chapel service in Rouge Park when I was a 17-year-old high school girl.
    Our church sponsored the service. I accompanied my father on piano when he sang a solo in his beautiful bass voice. My father was originally from England and didn't want anyone who was new in town to feel homesick, so he told the minister conducting the service that we'd be willing to host some soldiers for dinner.
    Our pastor, the late Rev. Ray Garrett, announced that any serviceman who would come to First Baptist Church of Garden City later that day could join the Thomas family for dinner. Soldier Bill Razor of New Castle, Ind., was the only one who came back to the church. In fact, he came to the morning chapel service even though he'd just shipped into camp the midnight before. That's what he was raised to do.
    The moment I saw him I knew he was the one.
    The next day at Fordson High School I was so excited about meeting Bill that I couldn't eat my lunch. My friends teased me to death about it.
    Bill started writing me right away, every day. We were married June 1, 1947, and lived in Indiana until work brought us back to the Detroit area. Bill retired 18 years ago after 32 years at Ford.
    We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary last year. We now live in Canton Twp. Our children and their spouses are Sharon and Ron Sundman of Canfield, Ohio, and Chris and Nancy Thomas of Westland. We have four grandchildren.

  1. Sharon Joy RAZOR, born 16 September 1952 at Wayne General Hospital, Michigan, married Ronald Lee SUNDMAN 20 May 1972 at the First Baptist of Wayne, Wayne, Michigan.   Ronald, son of Austin and LaVerna SUNDMAN, nee GRENIER, was born 23 May 1951 at Detroit, Michigan.

    Their children:

    1. Andrew Lee SUNDMAN, born 14 August 1980 at Annapolis Hospital, Wayne, Michigan.

    2. Kristin Joy SUNDMAN, born 12 February 1984 at Midland Hospital, Midland, Michigan.

  1. Chris Thomas RAZOR, born 31 May 1955 at Beyer Memorial Hospital, Ypsilanti, Michigan, married Nancy Jean PEARCE 6 September 1975 at the First Baptist of Wayne, Wayne, Michigan.   Nancy, daughter of Paul and Mary Jane PEARCE, nee BULLOCK was born 8 May 1957 at Detroit, Michigan.

    Their children:

    1. Kevin Thomas RAZOR, born 13 May 1980 at Oakwood Hospital, Dearborn, Michigan.

    2. Staci Lynn RAZOR, born 22 June 1984 at Oakwood Hospital, Dearborn, Michigan.
