Elmer Rogers,
Dies at Age 81 |

SPRINGPORT, Ind. - Elmer Rogers,
81, died Saturday in the home of his daughter,
Virginia Ann Hopper, in Van Buren, Indiana. He was
born in Salt Lick, Ky. He retired in 1972 from Emily
Flinn Nursing Home, Marion, Indiana where he worked
in the maintenance department. He also had been
employed at Brook's Foods, Mount Summit, Indiana for
18 years. He was a member of Springport Christian Church. Survivors besides his daughter, include his wife, Lora Veda Rogers; another daughter, Sylvia Jane Rogers, Indianapolis; |
a son, Cecil Rogers, Springport;
two sisters, Nellie Bowlin and Pearl Hickman, Lebo,
Kansas.; two brothers, Cecil Rogers, Lawrence, Kan.,
and Leslie Rogers, Lebo, Kan.; four grandchildren,
and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Main and Frame Blue River Memorial Chapel, Mount Summit ,with Rev. James Payton and Rev. J. Wayne Markward officiating. Burial will be in Mount Summit Cemetery. Calling is 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. |

Lora Veda Rogers of Van Buren, died
Monday in the Wells Community Hospital in Bluffton after
an extended illness. Formerly of Springport, Mrs. Rogers owned and operated Veda's Beauty Shop in Mount Summit for several years. She was a graduate of Mount Summit High School and was a member of the Springport Christian Church. She was born in Henry County on Sept. 24, 1913, a daughter of Chris and Ida Lee Spence Razor. Surviving are two daughters, Virginia Ann (husband: Max) Hopper, of Van Buren and Sylvia Jane (husband: Raymond) Ashley of Indianapolis; a son, Cecil H. (wife: Joyce) Rogers of Springport; four grandchildren, David Wayne, Hopper, Lora Margaret Hopper, Sgt. Alex Dale Rogers and Eileen Thomas; |
several great-grandchildren; four
sisters, Lillian Hole of Muncie, Caroline Bullock of New
Castle; Christine (husband: Robert) Garner of Spiceland,
Naomi Pugsley of Yorktown; a brother, William (wife: Joy)
Razor of Canton, Mich.; a brother-in-law, David (wife:
Ruth) French of Springport; and several nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer on April 25, 1987; an infant son, John Allen Rogers; two sisters, Opal Scrogham and Mary Jane French and a brother Glenn E. Razor. Services Will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with the Rev. David Siebenaler officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Summit Cemetery. Friends may call 3-9, p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Springport Christian Church.
