MUNCIE - Barbara Bullock Knowlton, age 71, lost her battle against lung cancer on
Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at home, 4308 Janick Circle N., Stevens Point, Wis. She has been cremated and a memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at Frame Memorial Presbyterian Church in Stevens Point, Wis. Rev. Ed Hunt will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Portage County Historical Society Foundation, or the Knowlton History Scholarship at UW-SP Foundation. Boston Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Barbara was born on March 3, 1931, in Muncie to Laura Boots and Robert Bullock. She received her bachelor of arts degree with high honors from Indiana University, where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She also studied at the National Autonomous University of Mexico in Mexico City. She married Robert Knowlton on March 29, 1958, in Akron, Ohio. She is survived by her husband; her daughter, Laura Yanchenko (husband: Gregory), Groton, Mass.; |
her son, Stephen, Somerville, Mass.; and grandchildren, Anna Katherine and Eric Knowlton
Yanchenko, Groton, Mass. She retired from teaching Spanish at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 1995. While at the university, she was active in academic staff governance and served on the faculty senate. She was a board member of the United Ministry in Higher Education. She was a member of Frame Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was president of the local League of Women Voters and served on the board and as vice-president of the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin. She was a longtime member of the Plan Commission of the City of Stevens Point. She served on the board and as treasurer of the Portage County Historical Society. She also enjoyed membership in Chapter 8, PEO Sisterhood, and in the Fortnightly Study Club. Recently, she was a volunteer with Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers and at the Riverfront Arts Center. |
